What is skinny fat?

Skinny fat is a relatively new phenomenon. It is starting to effect a lot of teens and young adults because of the increase in crazy and insane celeb diets.

You see all these people walking around that are skinny or as your mother might say
“There is not a pick on that one”

The problem is that we make the mistake of thinking that skinny is healthy.

Sorry for all the skinny people out there but just because you are skinny is not an indication that you are healthy.

I see these people every day, they look trim and fit but there are a lot of issue under the surface.

  1. They move like crap
  2. When they take their t-shirt off their belly wobbles like a bowl of jelly
  3. When they put on a pair of shorts the cellulite on their thighs are plain to see.

These people are not healthy.

The fact is they can be just as unhealthy as their friend who is 10 or 20 kg over their recommended weight.

In fact I would nearly go as far as to say that they are in fact even less healthier.

That is because they think they are healthy and don’t have a problem. The overweight friend can clearly see he/she has a problem and they need to do something about it.

There are two forms of fat storage subcutaneous fat and visceral fat. Subcutaneous fat is stored under the skin and is not a really major health concern. Visceral fat is fat that collects around the organs of the body. While skinny fat people have less subcutaneous fat, they can have equal and often higher levels of visceral fat that their overweight friend.

Visceral fat is a far higher health risk and causes far more deaths and illness

The only way to determine if you are at a healthy body fat is to do a body fat analysis. You can use skin fold measurements or one of the more sophisticated electronic machines. It will all depend on the budget you have and the interest you have for the most accurate result.

So don’t be fooled by a skinny waist band and if you are in doubt go and get your body fat analysis completed. You owe it to yourself to life the best possible life that you can.

We only get one shot at this so why not give it the best you can give it.

You will be grateful in the end that you did. Your family and loved ones will also thank you for it.
